Battle of Mactan Trading Cards

Media: Digital

These postcards call to mind the pivotal Battle of Mactan and the formidable Visayan warriors who fought against the Spaniards, headed by Ferdinand Magellan. This series depicts Datu LapuLapu and his men as trading cards, combining ancient Filipino history and contemporary culture. As the Filipino diaspora grows, we must learn and remember our history, especially those born outside the motherland. By making these pieces, I hope to instill new interest in young Filipino-Canadians to discover our roots and remember our past.

Pinoy Snack Series

Media: Digital

These are some of my favourite Pinoy snacks! From left to right, I rendered the wrappers of a Potchi, a Skyflakes, and a Polvoron. Potchi and Polvoron are pretty hard to get here in Canada, while in the Philippines they’re just common candies. These snacks are a small way I remember and appreciate where I came from.
