Declension

Media: Metal and acrylic

This piece, a columnal sculpture, rests on the floor while extending from the wall. There are two planes to the piece. The front, a glossy yet dark alloy surface, burgeoned with violent gestural lines expanding across the artwork. These organic lines leave a molten entrail along its borders. The shape of the artwork from the front is jagged and asymmetrical. Some of its lines follow the outline of its silhouette, in contrast to the chaotic linework seen across the piece. There are holes punched into the sculpture. Small holes seep between the lines, while there are larger uneven rectangular holes punched around the center of the piece and its edges. The back of the piece contrasts with the front as its own plane. A pastel pink painted across the back of the sculpture juxtaposes the violent gestural mark making the viewer initially met with. When set against a white wall, the pastel pink reflects off the back of the piece onto the wall and through the holes of the front. The reflective light creates a soft pink halo surrounding the artwork in its presentation.
