Thea Galang

Thea Galang (She/They) was born in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines and immigrated to Mohkinstsis, Treaty Seven territory (Calgary, AB) ten years ago. Through acrylic and oil painting, charcoal and graphite drawing, sculpting with repurposed objects and performance art, her pieces lead back to connecting her Filipino heritage through modern day living in Calgary, AB. They showcase notable attributes of her coastal hometown, her favourite home-cooked meals, and her family and ancestry.
Now attending Alberta University of the Arts in her second year, Thea is majoring in Sculpture, with a minor in Media Arts. She is also inspired by the surrounding local art within Mohkinstsis, and from emerging and established Filipino artists around the city.
