Harana

Medium: ACRYLIC
Size: 14″ X 16″

I remember my mom told me a story about men serenading them. They were six sisters and four brothers and they all had fun during their time, going to parties and social gatherings like dances and balls. Much like what I saw in old movies from the 60s when women wore petticoats. She told me stories, some I can still recall, and harana is one of them. Kids back in the days were excited for the stories our elders shared because some houses don’t have TV. We would all gather around our uncle who would take his time to finish a story, doing it on purpose. I don’t remember any of his stories anymore because I don’t remember making it to the end, we would all fall asleep before he got to the plot of his story. I bet he was laughing at us seeing a very quiet audience.
