Rice Gods

Oil on Canvas
48″ x 30″

Carved from wood by the Ifugao people, Bulul figures embody ancestral spirits believed to guard rice crops and granaries. Though often referred to as “rice gods,” they are not deities themselves but vessels through which ancestral protection is invoked. Through rituals of chanting, offering, and consecration, these figures are activated to safeguard the harvest from pests and misfortune, ensuring abundance and continuity through each planting cycle.
