Si Kaptan Ug Ang Kamatayon ni Lisuga
Acrylic on wood
34in x 41in
Kaptan, the powerful sky god of the Visayans, ruled the heavens and all creation. His granddaughter Lisuga, child of Kaptan and Magwayen’s lineage, was the radiant Goddess of Stars and Ancient Astronomy. Known for her joy and kindness, she was tragically destroyed during Kaptan’s wrath. Upon realizing her innocence, he turned her into stars to guide sailors, teaching ancient astronomy and symbolizing courage and joy in exploring the unknown.

I am a Filipino interdisciplinary artist based in Calgary, Alberta, whose practice examines identity, cultural displacement, and perception through a cross-cultural lens. Guided by the Cebuano concept MATA-MATA; meaning “to see an illusion” or “visionary insight”. I construct visual narratives that merge abstraction and figuration.
