Salingpusa Winter 2026 — Call for Submissions

HINGA: The Art of Breathing Through the Cold

Deadline: December 10, 2025, 11:59 p.m. MST
Publication Date: Late January 2026

Theme: In Tagalog, hinga means to breathe—an act of survival, rest, and renewal.
This winter, Salingpusa invites artists and writers to reflect on how we breathe through the cold: how breath carries memory, song, grief, and resilience. We welcome works that find warmth in stillness and clarity in silence—from poems whispered like fog to stories pulsing with the rhythm of community.

What we’re looking for:
Poetry—Up to 3 poems (max 40 lines each). We welcome English, Filipino, or bilingual work exploring air, pause, grief, or renewal.
Flash/Short Fiction—One story up to 1,200 words.
Stories that move quietly but deeply, exploring resilience, intimacy, and reconnection. We welcome English work exploring air, pause, grief, or renewal.
Creative Nonfiction—One essay up to 1,200 words.
Personal narratives, reflections, or braided essays on creative survival, migration, or breath as metaphor. We welcome English work exploring air, pause, grief, or renewal.
Visual Art / Photography—Up to 5 pieces (high-res JPEG or PNG, 300 dpi) with a short artist statement (100–150 words).
We’re drawn to works evoking breath, fog, stillness, or light in winter interiors.
Feature & News Pitches—Around 200–800 words.
Profiles, reportage, or human-interest pieces on Filipino and BIPOC artists, collectives, or arts events in Calgary and Alberta.
